Tympaki
is a town (5.007 residents) at Messara valley, prefecture Heraklion, Crete,
Greece, at altitude of 30m above sea level. Tympaki is situated near the Eastern coast of Messara Gulf,
65 km far from Heraklion City, Capital of Crete.
Messara:
is a valley (length 50 klm, width of 7 klm), at southern part of Heraklion prefecture, Crete.
It is located in-between mountain chains, has fruitful, pure and
naturally fertilised soil and can produce plants all over the year, that
even can not grow or to be planted in other regions.
Messara has also rich history. There are ancient settlements that have been found in this region
(Neolithic era, Cuprum era, and Minoan epoch).
According myth, King Menelaos while on his way back from Troy, stayed in an ancient city here.
